Portuguese thoroughbred
The International Lusitanian Thoroughbred Festival held at the Manuel Possolo Hippodrome in Cascais, is the main stage for Lusitanian horse breeders to show their finest horses. Held from June 13 a 16, this event is expected to attract hundreds of horse breeders and fans of this breed.
In addition to competitions with some of the finest Lusitanian horses, this event also features seminars and discussion groups on everything to do with this Portuguese breed, from lineage to characteristics and qualities. First ridden around 5000 years ago, the Lusitanian thoroughbred is the oldest saddled horse in the world, revealing all the qualities and beauty from two thousand years ago when the Greeks and Romans recognised it as the finest horse for riding.
Chosen as a horse for breeding and fighting throughout the ages, it is a versatile breed that today competes in nearly all modern equestrian events and bullfighting.
