Sea Festivities
The cosmopolitan town of Cascais has ancient links to the sea.
Every year the fishing community thanks its patron saint, Our Lady of Seafarers for her protection, making a procession as the highlight of this Sea Festival.
The “Festas do Mar” are the biggest folk religious celebration that livens Cascais centre during the month of são August. Keeping to tradition, the procession in honour of Our Lady of Seafarers is held on August 22, starting next to the Matriz Church.
The boats accompany the procession following its path from Cascais Bay to Guia and back, carrying the biers with the images of the saints. During the Festivities there will be plenty of culinary delicacies, handicrafts and musical shows, by Portuguese musicians.
The Sea Festivities also include several concerts, takind place at Cascais' bay from the 19th to the 29th August.
